| November 11, 2007 | Friends of the Lower Muskingum River Hike |
We will be hiking with Doug Albaugh, secretary of Friends of Lower Muskingum (FLMR) on his 32 acres of land along the Muskingum River as well as the adjoining FLMR land, about 30 acres. We will be hiking on land protected with FLMR conservation easements! We will be blessed with lots of mowed trails and delightful places to investigate and enjoy. We will carpool from the Athens Public Library, 30 Home Street (1:00 p.m. departure) and meet @ 1:15 with the Amesville Post Office carpool group on State Route 550/State Route 329.
Directions to Doug Albaugh's place, 3778 SOUTH STATE ROUTE 266, STOCKPORT OH 43787, phone 740-984-8201
From Beverly, go north about 5 miles on Route 60, and turn left on Route 266. From McConnelsville, go south about 6 miles on Route 60 and turn right on Route 266. From Stockport, cross the river and follow Route 266 to the right.
From the junction of Routes 60 and 266, go about 4 1/2 miles, then watch for a very noticeable dip in the road. At the bottom of the dip you will see Columbus Street on the left, and when you come up out of the dip you will see "Friends of Lower Muskingum River Luke Chute Project" on the left, then a white mailbox on the left with the number 3778. Take the driveway, on the left, just before the mailbox. Then follow sign to "Doug's house."
If you approach from Stockport, it's 5.1 miles, on Route 266, and the mailbox and driveway are on the right, just after "Robinsons on Blueberry Hill." Warning: The house numbering sequence changes several times between Route 60 and Stockport, so you should depend primarily on mileage. |
